The Samsung Galaxy AI suite will not be available on devices released before 2023, according to Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience Patrick Chomet. The AI-powered features included in the new Galaxy S24 series, such as advanced photo editing, voice transcription, and real-time phone call translation, will only be supported on newer devices. Chomet stated that Samsung wants to ensure that AI experiences can be supported by mobile performance, including CPU and GPU capabilities, and also wants to monitor the intensity of AI usage on resources. While Chomet did not explicitly mention cost as a reason for limiting these features to newer devices, it is speculated that the requirement for backend work in the cloud and potential payment requirements may have influenced this decision. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is available for pre-order starting at $799.
